Healthy Chocolate “Milkshake” Breakfast Smoothie

Healthy Chocolate “Milkshake” Breakfast Smoothie

Who doesn't love to start their day with a chocolate milkshake!? By milkshake, I mean a SMOOTHIE. But it is thick and chocolatey delicious so it tastes just like a milkshake... but healthy!  Chocolate smoothies are one of my faves and I am so so excited to share this one with you. Smoothies are on my breakfast rotation 50% of the time. I find them so satisfying and enjoyable. They really can pack in all the good nutrients to keep you full for hours and start your day off right.

Chocolate Breakfast Smoothie

In this chocolate smoothie, I added a special ingredient, Lion's Mane! I used the OM Mushrooms brand. Don't worry if you do not know what that is.. I got you! Lion's Mane is a type of mushroom. I know you may be thinking that mushrooms and chocolate do not mix (I hear you), but it is not like that! This is a powder that I believe is totally tasteless in it's serving size. Om Mushroom grows their own high-quality, organic functional mushrooms in an ultra-clean environment at their indoor farm in Carlsbad, California. Lion’s Mane is one of those mushrooms. It is used to support brain health and mental clarity. Great for mornings! It is called the Brain Fuel of the mushrooms. Om Mushrooms makes a variety of healthy supporting functional mushroom products that I have really enjoyed exploring. I have been making my immune-boosting latte with the Immune Blend daily as well. You can check out those details on my IG post.  To learn even more about the brand, check out their FAQ page

Ok, let's get to the recipe! Here is what you need:

  • FROZEN BANANA - my fave smoothie base
  • FROZEN AVOCADO - I love this to make smoothies thickkk
  • CHOCOLATE PROTEIN POWDER - mine has added fiber and omega 3s in it from ground flax/chia if yours doesn't I recommend adding 1 tbsp of CHIA or FLAX
  • ALMOND BUTTER - Any nut butter you love. Chocolate flavored ones would be a bonus
  • ALMOND MILK - Also any nut milk works here. Regular milk works too.
  • DATE - I like to add one pitted date for a little sweetness, but it is totally optional. You can also do a little bit of maple syrup or honey.
  • ICE - this is what makes it super thick and cold!
  • OM MUSHROOMS LION'S MANE - as detailed above, this is a great boost option for your smoothie! Especially in the morning of a busy day,
