Easy Cast Iron Pizza Recipe! So, the other day Jacob and I were watching Youtube videos about how to make pizza in the cast iron. After seeing a few different methods, we decided to try it! and OMG it turned out fabulous. I don't know if I will ever make pizza at home again without this method. This style pizza is very "midwest". That means -- thick crust and crispy edges. We put the toppings all the way to the edges so that the cheese can get nice and crispy too.
A note on DOUGH: You can make your own dough, but we purchased frozen dough from the grocery store. You can also get pizza dough fresh too. The TJS version works great! We also the frozen brand "Tiseo Foods" and it turned out unreal. Just make sure to follow the instructions of how to defrost. For fresh / already defrosted pizza dough, you will just need to leave it out on the counter to get room temp before starting.
I have yet to test other types of fresh / frozen dough (gluten free), but this post will be updated as I do so.
What you need for this Easy Cast Iron Pizza:
- Pizza Sauce - I use the spicy version from Whole Foods
- Frozen Pizza Dough - see above
- Olive Oil
- Kosher Salt, Pepper, Italian Seasoning (or oregano)
- Garlic Powder - option
- Cheese - I used a mix of fresh mozzarella a low moisture pizza cheese mix from whole foods
- Toppings - Pepperoni (Applegate brand), sautéed onions/mushrooms
- You can make and prepare any type of pizza toppings you love!
- Garnish - fresh basil and balsamic glaze (optional)
- Cast Iron Pan

Ingredients:
Directions:
Let dough fully thaw (if frozen).
Season the pan. Generously pour olive oil and spices on the bottom and fully coat.
Sprinkle flour on each side of the pizza dough and then stretch it out to fit the size of the pan.
Add dough on top of seasoned pan and evenly spread out with fingers. Let sit for 15-20 minutes.
Prepare the toppings and set out cheese/sauce while dough is setting. Have them ready!
Turn oven to broil and set the stove top to medium.
Place cast iron with dough on stove top.
Add your sauce and toppings. Go all the way to the edges. Let it cook on the stovetop for 7 minutes total (from the time you place it). You don't want to burn the bottom, but this helps it start to sizzle and get crispy.
After 7 minutes, move cast iron pizza to the oven on the top rack to broil for about 4 minutes or until it looks perfectly done to you. Cheese should be fully melted and edges browned.
Remove from oven, let cool and then place on a cookie rack. Enjoy!
