Being a city girl at heart, I LOVE visiting New York City. This time, I was visiting one of my best friends who lives there and is also super into health and wellness (you can find her and her roommate on Instagram — @sweatsandthecity) Naturally, it turned into a little healthy blogger weekend – no complaints – and we had such a blast. Below I will chronicle our fave eats, treats and workout deets. Just the highlights here!
After my arrival on Thursday, we went to dinner at Sugarfish. I had heard incredible things about this spot so I was super pleased that Dale was able to put her name down like 2 hours earlier (apparently that is totally necessary for this spot). Now, this is not your average sushi spot where you order 2 rolls, a salad, and whatever else. The best way to go is to order one of their dinner sets. I ordered the “Trust Me Lite” – edamame (wasn’t anything special), tuna sashimi (insanely delish + fresh), their signature sushi with warm rice and super soft and fresh fish on top. My fave was actually the handroll at the end. The seaweed was warm, crispy and perfectly salted. No question I will be back here!
For ‘dessert’ we had freeze at Pressed Juicery. It’s like a smoothie meets Froyo and basic girls from all over flock to this spot (including me). It lived up to the hype! I got the vanilla almond and chocolate almond.
Friday we hit up SoulCycle in Soho – still a classic fave for me. Although, this class was Drake-themed and us Toronto girls were loving life. It was called “Wake and Drake”. The teacher, Sam, had incredible energy. At this studio, the teachers make the experience – so I was so happy we got to enjoy Sam’s class.
After soul (in our sweaty clothes and all), we had brunch at Two Hands NYC. A spot I have been dying to try for a long time. This is an Australian spot with amazing healthy food! We shared the matcha bowl and the Zoe’s Market Plate. I heard the banana bread is bomb – so that is on my list for next time.
After an afternoon of walking around and enjoying the summer-like weather, we went to The Little Beet Table for dinner. This one takes the cake for my fave meal! You know when restaurants have super creative veggie-friendly dishes with the most amazing combinations and sauces – It was one of those! The Cauliflower steak, delicata squash, salmon crudo and kale salad were out of this world. Seriously, we devoured every last bit of the food. My fave dish was the cauli steak – it made in a sweet green curry sauce that was sooo tasty. Curry is one of my fave dishes so I was in heaven. Highly reco this spot!
Saturday was just as gorgeous of a day so I walked to Flatiron to meet some blogger/instagram friends – Elinor from @sweatsintheix and Bianca from @holisticrx for a coffee at Eataly. Had so much fun with these awesome girls! We then went to a yoga class at Y7 Studio in Union Square. Ok this yoga class was amazing! Pitch black room, candles and an amazing teacher (Kira). SERIOUS VIBES HERE! It was total Detroit style yoga with solo flowing and all – I felt at home. What made this studio special was the music – hip-hop! So much fun to flow to the beat. It was literally the sweatiest class, but I loved every second. PS: I hear the Flatiron studio is the best so I would check that one out next time.
A well-deserved brunch was at the gorgeous Miss Paradis in Nolita. The design in this place was absolutely stunning. I had a not – so – average avocado toast with a delish quinoa and roasted vegetable base. Different than other ones I have had and SUPER tasty. Also had their acai bowl, which wasn’t anything special, but still hit the spot. I hear the matcha-brioche there is amazing. So maybe next time I will have to indulge in that. Oh, and the Coffee was very very good!
I must note that later in the day my friend Naomi and I walked to three Pressed Juicery location to get freeze. One didn’t have freeze, one was out and the last one had it! I loved it there guys!
Saturday night we went to a speakeasy mexican spot called La Esquina. It was super unassuming on the outside, but the basement bar/restaurant was so cool! Never been to a place like that before. Thankful for my friends who have the hookups there. We ordered all the things – chips + queso, ceviche, mahi-mahi tacos, queso + elote. And the best spicy marg I have ever had! Quite the fun and indulgent meal.
Sunday we walked down to the west village for brunch at The Butcher’s Daughter – a plant-based brunch spot. There we met another of my instagram friends @alyssabrieloff (a little bit of a theme here – but i love it). I got the avocado benedict which was a little like a remix of an avocado toast with an amazing curry hollandaise sauce that comes with the most delish roasted potatoes. I literally ate every last one! Everyone loved their meal – you cannot go wrong there!
After an afternoon walking in Central park with my friend Aaron (seriously needed some nature) I headed to Williamsburg, BK to see my sister + brother in law. We went to Dim Sum Bar for some late night Dim Sum for dinner. Seriously, forgot how freaking amazing Dim Sum is. Not healthy at all, but totally worth it! I would highly reco this spot. I was thinking about the desert the whole plane ride home. It was some kind of hot fried rice donut with seasame seeds and peanut butter inside. I am totally describing it wrong, but I am telling you it was divine!
Anywho – those were my highlights of food and fitness from my long weekend in the city. More travel logs to come..
xx
